What is it?
An office productivity suite, alternative to costly Microsoft Office.
Not as good as Microsoft Office Word but is good for most of your tasks.
Can open your existing Microsoft Word documents and new documents can be saved as
Microsoft Word Document with ".doc" extension. The version that I have got is OpenOffice
2.3 which doesn't support new ".docx" documents. Maybe the new version of OpenOffice
does support ".docx" but the only way to find that out is by trying the newest version available.
PDF Converter:
The built-in PDF is very quick and easy to use. Any new or existing MS Word Documents can
be converted to PDF file easily by going to File > Export As PDF.
It may take you some time in downloading OpenOffice from http://www.openoffice.org/ and
will cost you several hundred megabytes of your disk space but if you have a high speed
internet connection and if disk space is not really an issue then definitely give openoffice a
try.
